Child Protection Policy

NATALIE ROBERTS PERFORMING ARTS (NRPA)

1st September 2021

Under the Children and Young Persons Act 1963, the Child (Performances) Regulations 1968 and the Protection of Children Act 1999, NRPA acknowledges its duty of care and commitment to ensuring the welfare of children and young people is paramount. As an organisation, we understand the need to protect children and young people from exposure to abuse or situations that could be construed as abusive.

The aims of this policy are to ensure that we listen to, and respect the rights, wishes and feelings of all our children and young people, whilst safeguarding them from any perceived significant harm. The policy will also allow staff and volunteers to make informed and confident responses to specific child protection issues.

NRPA  will adhere to the following principles of good practice:

●        all children, regardless of gender, age, language, race, religion, culture or disability have the right to protection from abuse

●        the welfare of the child/young person is paramount at all times

●        all children will be treated equally with dignity and respect

●        bullying will not be accepted

●        staff and volunteers will ensure that the child/young person is listened to and given a sense of belonging and enjoyment

●        all work will be undertaken in an open environment. Private or unobserved situations and excessive time alone with a child/young person will be avoided. Any required physical support will be given openly

●        staff, volunteers and adult members of the society will provide an excellent role model for behaviour. This includes not smoking or drinking alcohol in the company of children

●        all adults working with children/young people must ensure the position of trust they hold is not violated. It is important to avoid language or behaviour which could be misinterpreted i.e letters, text messages, social media interaction, phone calls, physical contact etc

●        the named person responsible for child protection will ensure that emergency contact numbers for parents/carers of children/young people are easily accessible

●        NRPA will ensure that a risk assessment has been made for all activities

●        the child protection officer will keep up-to-date with child protection legislation, and health and safety legislation and undertake any relevant training

●        NRPA  will secure parental consent to act in loco parentis; requiring parents to advise of any underlying medical conditions before leaving a child in our care
